The world is full of animals that we've never even heard of (especially in the ocean).
This sentiment is dedicated to some strangely unique animals that some of you may have never heard of!
They're definitely strange, and some of them might just send a chill up your spine!

Aye Aye

Do not look me in the eye and tell me that THIS ISN'T A DEMON. |
The Aye Aye is an endangered lemur. Some cultures think of this animal as a bad spirit, so they kill them on sight. I'm not surprised that they think of it as a bad spirit!
Blob Fish

Bush Viper

| One of my favorites and one of Earth's closest animals to a dragon. |
This beauty is venomous and technically known as Atheris. They sometimes eat other snakes!

Japanese Spider Crab

Japanese Spider Crabs can reach 12 feet in length from claw to claw and can weigh up to 42 pounds! Despite looking scary, they are actually gentle creatures, which will not change my feelings towards them.
Maned Wolf

Maned wolves are locally known as "large foxes" in Africa, and look like a deer and a fox mixed.
Pacu Fish
Well um...this super odd fish closely resembles a human skull. Let's not talk about it anymore.
Shoebill Stork

Shoebills are absolutely stunning birds that are generally quiet and tend to not move around much. They are known as whalehead or b-rex in their taxonomy.
Tapir

Tufted Deer

| I call them vampire deer. |
Tufted deer are a small species of deer. You can easily differentiate them from normal deer by their prominent tufts of blackish fur on their heads. Males have those fang-like canines that stick out of their mouths.

These are just a few odd and playful creatures that you aren't very likely to encounter unless you live in Africa or Asia, or visit a zoo (or happen to have them as a pet). I find all animals (especially these) super fascinating!

ReplyDeleteI knew mostly all of them but the maned wolf is really cool to see in real life. The one at the San Diego Zoo is really cute. Spanish dancer is ADORABLE for some reason I dunno why.
