Spirit Sentiment #3 - Beta vs. Rare

Hey Jammers!

We all love trading. We get new items from it that we may not have, and we can use those items to trade for what we really want. 

Some Jammers, however, are confused with which items are beta and which items are just really rare.

This sentiment is dedicated to that clarification. Some Jammers get frustrated at me or others when we try clarifying this topic!

What "Beta" really means

(First of all, it's pronounced bait-uh)

The beta testing period of Animal Jam took place in 2010. This is where they used certain items to test and released to the beta testers. Here is an example of what some beta items were:

These items are beta, because they were used in the testing period.

What "rare" really means

An item that is "rare" means that it is scarce, or not common. In this case, rare means that it is no longer in stores. 

Rare can also mean that this item was sold on Rare Item Monday, but it doesn't always mean that it's rare just because it was sold then.

These are a few items that are commonly mistake for being beta.

Backpack

Backpacks were released in 2012 on September 1st as a back-to-school item. Click here to see The Spirit's post about it.

Basketball

Okay I have NO idea how Jammers got the idea that basketballs were beta. It must have been a rumor that floated around long enough.
Basketballs were released in early 2011. 2011 was NOT the beta testing period, but the live period that we are in right now.

Ice Phantom Statue

The Ice Phantom Statue was released as a Christmas gift in 2012. Click here to see The Spirit's post about it.

Rare/Spiked Collar/Wristband

Spiked Collars and Wristbands are one of Jamaa's most popular items. They, however, are not beta like some Jammers say.  They were released in the Summer of 2011 as monthly member gifts. Click here to see the Spirit's post about them.

Those are a few items around Jamaa that are mistaken for being beta. But they are only rare.

Also, beta does not mean "out of stores". Beta is what I mentioned earlier in this post. The word you are looking for is "rare".

AJ HQ also released the Beta Party, where they sell items that they tested in the Beta Days. If Animal Jam did use these items and said they are beta, then they are beta. Some Jammers complain that these items are not beta.
*I was not around in the beta days, but came to Jamaa in March 2011, after seeing an advertisement in a magazine that I bought with birthday money.*

Yangtze River Dolphin

The Yangtze River Dolphin is known as Baiji, and went extinct in 2002 when the last remaining dolphin named Qiqi died. It would have been great if we were able to save this little guy and the rest of his species!
