Well speaking about changes, this is not expected, Christmas in July!
Although I'm not too sure why there is winter in summer, I'm going to guess it's because some countries celebrate Christmas/winter during this time of the year! Funny isn't it, someone could be freezing their paws off while you're sunbathing!

Why are there two secret/blocked passages in Appondale and Mount Shiveer? From the passage in Appondale, it looks like a rather cloudy/cold place! Could it be a new land?
